The City of Grimes has water meters available to be purchased for water used outside or through irrigation systems. This can be used for yards, swimming pools, and other uses for which sanitary sewer charges don’t apply. You will then only pay for the water, not the sewer fee for water used outside. Residences that don’t have a separate outside meter will be charged water and sewer rates on all water used inside and outside. To purchase a permanent irrigation meter, or a second meter, contact the Utility Billing Department located in City Hall at 515-986-3036.
