Emergency Services:
For water or sewer related emergencies, such as a broken water main, fire hydrant, water service line (between a water meter and the street), sewer backups (possibly caused by city infrastructure), or if you see water gushing from the middle of a street, please call our 24/7 hotline, 1.888.861.1921

New Accounts

A new resident to Grimes or a resident moving from one location to another must fill out a utility application form to request service at an address on a specific date. Renters are asked to come into City Hall with a valid driver's license and a $100 security deposit.

Information required is name on the account, phone numbers, Social Security number, mailing address (if different from property location), and date you will be taking possession of property.

Payment Options

Payment options available are: Credit Cards, Automatic withdrawl from checking account (ACH), check or money order mailed to 101 NE Harvey ST, Grimes Iowa 50111, or cash, check and money orders are accepted from 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday at City Hall.

The City also provides a drop box located in front of City Hall for after hours or weekends.

Automatic Payment: If you would like to have your water bill automatically deducted from your checking account each month, please fill out  this ACH form and return it to City Hall along with a VOIDED blank check.

Delinquent Accounts

Utility accounts are delinquent if payment is not received by the 20th of each month. A 1.5% penalty is added to each delinquent bill. Reminder notices will be mailed to all delinquent accounts within 7 woking days after the bill becomes delinquent. Disconnect notices will be sent six days after the date that the reminder notice is sent. Such notices will be sent by regular mail and shall inform the customer of the nature of the delinquency and afford the customer the opportunity for a hearing prior to the discontinuance. The total bill, plus a $5.00 service charge for the expenses connected with the disconnect notice must be paid within five working days of the date of the disonnect notice or service will be terminatd per order of the superintendent. If service is discontinued there will be a turn on fee of $25 during regular working hours defined as 8am - 3pm Monday through Friday, or $50 if not during regular working hours.

 Water:            $7.23 per 1,000 gallons
 Sewer: $5.76 per 1,000 gallons
 Garbage and Recycling: $9.59 per month
