IA 44 Improvement Project – Notes from the Engineer
During the week of July 12, 2010 to July 16, 2010, Reilly completed final grading in the area between Brookside Drive and placement of granular base for the paving.
Halbrook Excavating completed storm sewer and intake bases on IA 44 between S. James Street and Maplewood Drive. This work is being done under traffic with flagging as necessary. Access to properties between S. James Street and SW Maplewood Drive is being maintained.
The Underground Company was finally able to work on extending the box culvert. The floor of the box culvert is completed and forming for the walls will begin on July 20. This work is expected to be completed by July 29, 2010 weather permitting.
Electric conduit installation between SE Main Street and SE Little Beaver Drive is completed. Pulling wires into conduits is nearly completed.
Gas main construction activities along IA 44 are complete. Installation of new gas main in James Street began Monday July 12, 2010.
On S. James Street, work on relocating underground phone lines is proceeding. Halbrook Excavating completed installation of storm sewer and intakes for the new paving on S. James Street. Conflicts with existing water mains slowed progress on installation of the storm sewer.
Traffic on James Street to and from west IA 44 is detoured through Kenny Brooke Subdivision and traffic on James Street to and from east IA 44 is detoured on S. Third Street and on S. Ewing Street.
Starting Wednesday July 21, 2010, North James Street will be closed to through traffic. The detour for this closure will be North Ewing Street from IA 44 to NE 4th Street to N James Street and NW 3rd Street from N James Street to Calista Street thence south on Calista to IA 44.
More information about project phasing and designated detour routes will be available on the City of Grimes web site through the duration of the project.
