NE Main Street Improvement Project
Weekly Update Friday September 15th  (PDF)
What to expect next week: September 18 Monday – September 22 Friday
• Street connections at NE 2nd and NE 3rd will be completed.
• Driveways and storm intakes will be poured.
• Parking adjacent to the Right Stuf will be poured.
• The contractor may start pouring the new sidewalk on the west side of NE Main and hauling in topsoil for landscaped areas.

Construction Notice 9/15/2017: 
The contractor will be pouring the south phase Friday September 15th between NE 4th ST and E 1st ST starting in late morning. Expect heavy concrete truck traffic in the area of NE Main ST throughout the day.

What to expect next week: September 11 Monday – September 15 Friday
• The south paving phase excavation and placement of rock subbase will occur the week of September 11th.
• Sanitary manholes in the south paving phase will be adjusted the week of September 11th.
• The south paving phase concrete will be placed late the week of September 11th or early the week of September 18th.

The south phase existing pavement removal will begin on Thursday 9/7 which will require detour around NE Main St. from NE 1st to NE 5th. This detour is expected to remain in place for about 1 month. NE Main Street from NE 5th to NE 7th will be reopened to regular traffic starting 9/7.

• The middle paving phase should be reopened to regular traffic by the middle of the week.
• Paving removals for the south paving phase (NE 1st to NE 4th) may start as soon as the middle of the week.

• Driveways and parking adjacent to the middle paving phase are expected to be poured.
• Subdrain behind the curb for the middle phase will be installed.

What to expect next week: August 21 Monday – August 25 Friday
• Paving of the middle phase is expected to occur on Tuesday 8/22 (weather permitting). Expect heavy concrete truck traffic in this area during the pour. This has been delayed until Thursday August 24th
• Paving connections to NE 4th and NE 5th are expected to occur this week.
• Storm sewer intakes in the middle phase will be poured.
• Some driveway connections to the middle phase paving will be poured.
• Storm sewer installation will continue south along the east edge of NE Main St.

• Grading, subgrade prep, and subbase placement (rock) for the middle phase is anticipated to be completed next week
• Sanitary manhole adjustments within the middle phase are expected to be completed next week
• Storm sewer installation will continue south along the east edge of NE Main St.
• Sidewalks on the west side of the north paving phase will be started

Update Thursday August 10th:
NE Main Street will be closed to through traffic from NE 3rd to NE 7th after the morning rush hour. Detour around NE Main via NE Jacob ST. Also, NE Main from NE 7th to NE 12th will be opened to regular traffic.

What to expect next week: August 7 Monday – August 11 Friday
• The contractor is planning to continue to focus on driveway connections, sidewalks, joint sealing, and cleanup adjacent to the north paving phase. It is anticipated that the north phase new paving will be opened to regular traffic by the end of the week of August 7th.
• Storm sewer installation will continue south along the east edge of NE Main St.
• The middle phase (between NE 4th and NE 7th) is tentatively scheduled to have existing pavement removal begin the towards the end of the week of 8/7 or the week of 8/14. Once paving is removed in this phase, detours around NE Main from NE 3rd to NE 7th should be expected for about a month.

What to expect next week: July 31 Monday – August 4 Friday
• The contractor is planning to focus on driveway connections, sidewalks, joint sealing, cleanup, and storm intakes adjacent to the north paving phase.
• Storm sewer installation will continue south along the east edge of NE Main St.
• The middle phase (between NE 4th and NE 7th) is tentatively scheduled to have existing pavement removal begin the towards the end of the week of 8/7 or the week of 8/14. Once paving is removed in this phase, detours around NE Main from NE 3rd to NE 7th should be expected for about a month.

What to expect next week: July 24 Monday – July 28 Friday
• Paving of the north paving phase will start at 6:00 am Monday July 24th. NE Main St. south of NE 7th St. should expect heavy concrete truck traffic until about noon.
• After the mainline paving is placed, the contractor is expected to start on paving driveway aprons in the area of the north paving phase.
• Storm sewer installation will continue south along the east edge of NE Main St.
• The middle phase (between NE 4th and NE 7th) is tentatively scheduled to have existing pavement removal begin the week of 8/7. Once paving is removed in this phase, detours around NE Main from NE 3rd to NE 7th should be expected for about a month.

What to expect next week: July 17 Monday – July 21 Friday
• Storm sewer installation will continue south along the east edge of NE Main St.
• The contractor will install subdrain in the area of the north paving phase prior to placing paving.
• The contractor will place modified subbase (crushed rock) in the area of the north paving phase prior to placing paving.
• Paving will not likely be placed during this week, more likely the following week.

What to expect next week: July 10 Monday – July 14 Friday
• The north phase paving removal is scheduled to begin. This will require complete closure of NE Main Street between NE 7th and the north end of the project near the creek. Expect detours around this area for about a month after removals start.
• The contractor will finish up the few remaining sanitary sewer service replacements.
• Storm sewer installation will continue south along the east edge of NE Main St.

What to expect next week: July 3 Monday – July 7 Friday
• The contractor does not plan to do any work on Monday July 3rd or Tuesday July 4th.
• The north phase paving removal is scheduled to begin on Wednesday July 5th. This will require complete closure of NE Main Street between NE 7th and the north end of the project near the creek. Expect detours around this area for about a month after removals start.
• The contractor will continue to replace sanitary sewer services. They will move into the 100 block of NE Main St. Sanitary sewer replacements should be finished up during the week of July 3rd.
• Storm sewer installation will continue south along the east edge of NE Main St.
• An 8 inch watermain at NE 5th will be lowered to avoid conflict with the new storm sewer.
• Centurylink will finish their work this week. Service interruptions, if any, are expected to be minor from this work.

• The contractor will continue to investigate and replace sanitary sewer services. They will move into the 100 and 200 blocks of NE Main St. Temporary road closures on NE Main St. are expected during this work.
• The contractor’s second crew will continue working their way south with storm sewer installation.
• A 12 inch watermain near NE 7th will be lowered on Monday. This work will cause service interruptions for two residences who have already been notified.
• Black Hills Energy and Centurylink will continue relocating their service lines throughout the project limits. Service interruptions, if any, are expected to be minor from this work.

What to expect next week: June 19 Monday – June 23 Friday
• The contractor will continue to investigate and replace sanitary sewer services. They will move into the 100 and 200 blocks of NE Main St. Temporary road closures on NE Main are expected during this work.
• The contractor’s second crew will continue working their way south with storm sewer installation.
• The water main will be lowered in several locations to avoid conflict with the new storm sewer. Some interruptions in water service is expected from this work, generally during the daytime hours and restored for the evening and overnight hours.
• Black Hills Energy and Centurylink will continue relocating their service lines throughout the project limits. Service interruptions, if any, are expected to be minor from this work.

  • Mail delivery for addresses from NE 5th St. north to northern project limit.

Weekly Update Monday May 26th  (PDF)
What to expect next week: May 29th Monday - June 2 Friday

• The contractor will continue to investigate and replace sanitary sewer services as necessary working their way south on the east side of NE Main and then north on the west side of NE Main. Temporary partial road closures on NE Main are expected during this work.
• The contractor will start a second crew installing storm sewer at the north limit of the project site.
• Black Hills Energy and Centurylink will continue relocating their service lines as necessary throughout the project limits. Service interruptions, if any, are expected to be minor from this work.
• Mailboxes will begin to be removed on Tuesday of next week. This is required to allow for storm sewer installation and for paving removal and replacement. In general, the temporary locations will be as follows:
o Mail delivery for addresses from Hwy. 44 to NE 3rd St. temporary mailbox cluster will be located on NE 3rd St., east of NE Main, on the north side of the street.
o Mail delivery for addresses from NE 3rd St. to NE 5th St. temporary mailbox cluster will be located on NE 5th St., east of NE Main, on the north side of the street.
o Mail delivery for addresses from NE 5th St. north to northern project limit. temporary mailbox cluster will be located on NE 7th St., east of NE Main, on the north side of the street.

What to expect next week: May 22 Monday - May 26 Friday

  • The contractor will continue to investigate sanitary sewer services generally working from north to south.
  • Reinforced concrete pipe for the new storm sewer system will be delivered to the project. The contractor is expected to start a second crew laying storm sewer beginning at the north end near the creek and working their way south.
  • CenturyLink will begin relocating their service lines as necessary throughout the project limits.
  • Black Hills Energy will begin relocating their natural gas service lines as necessary throughout the project limits. Service interruptions, if any, are expected to be minor.
  • IMPORTANT UPDATE - TUESDAY MAY 16TH -  DUE TO CONDITIONS, IT WILL BE NECESSARY TO ENACT TEMPORARY CLOSURES DURING CONSTRUCTION HOURS.

    What to expect next week: May 15 Monday - May 19 Friday
    • The contractor will continue to investigate sanitary sewer services working from north to south.
    • Inactive services will be disconnected and capped, active services will be removed and replaced with a new PVC service pipe.
    • The excavations will be backfilled and covered with a temporary rock surface which will allow the street to remain open until paving operations begin.

    Weekly Update Monday May 8th: Work limits have been marked, trees have been tagged for removal.
    Monday the contractor plans to mobilize some equipment and materials into the staging area on the west side of NE Main ST in the empty lot near the creek. Tuesday the contractor will start working on sanitary sewer service replacements on the north end of the project, working their way south. This work will cause some partial and temporary closure of NE Main ST and will likely continue through the end of the week.

    The project is scheduled to start Monday, May 8th. The contractor will mobilize and install temporary mailboxes on Monday. The contractor will focus on sanitary sewer service installation the rest of the week.
