This is so the contractor can work on that portion of SE 3rd Street that is east of Main.
Important Note: You may hear a lot of noise during and after the paving operations are complete. This is due to sawcutting of the pavement that needs to happen. Note that there will be a lot of dust generated from this. It is advised that you roll up car windows and close house windows if the contractor is doing work so dust doesn't accumulate.

July 29th - August 2nd (PDF):  Phase 2 continues. This week approximately half of the sidewalk and decorative paving was completed in phase 2 along with most of the balance of the phase 2 mainline paving (SE Main and SE 3rd west of Main).
Next week Absolute Concrete will continue paving sidewalks along SE Main and SE 3rd Street and Kline Electric should begin setting light poles.
Vehicular access along SE Main is restricted from the south driveway of the G.C.C. to SE 3rd Street, and SE 3rd Street is restricted west of SE Main Street. Saturday traffic will be open from SE 4th Street to SE 6th Street for an event at the G.C.C.
Important Note: You will likely hear a lot of noise during and after the paving operations. This is due to the saw cutting of the pavement that needs to happen. There will be a lot of dust generated from this. It is recommended that you roll up car windows and close house windows if the contractor is doing this work so the dust doesn't accumulate.

July 1st - July 5th (PDF):  Phase 2 continues. This week all of the water services south of SE 4th Street were disconnected from the old water main and were connected to the new main. Vanderpool also worked on the storm sewer along SE Main Street south of SE 4th Street. Reminder: Vehicle access along SE Main Street is restricted from the south driveway of the G.C.C. to SE 3rd Street, and SE 3rd Street is restricted west of SE Main Street.
Next week Vanderpool will continue with storm sewer pipe placement along SE Main Street and will also grade SE Main Street (south of SE 4th) to get the roadway ready for drainable rock sub base and paving.

June 24th - June 28th (PDF):  Phase 2 of the project continues. Work was rained out for a couple of days, but Vanderpool still made progress on installing a new water main along SE Main Street. The water main is up to SE 4th Street. Vanderpool plans on connecting water services early next week. This work may require temporary water shutdowns. Please see the Door Hanger Notice for more information.
During water main construction it is common to have air or sediment in the line due to the water main being cut, moved, capped, etc. If you notice discoloration of the water coming out of your faucet, you can typically get rid of this issue by running the tap or spigot for a few seconds until it clears up. The outdoor spigot typically works better as many indoor faucets have screens that can get plugged.
Reminder: Vehicle access along SE Main is restricted from the south driveway of the G.C.C. to SE 3rd Street, and SE 3rd Street is restricted west of SE Main Street.
Next week vanderpool will continue with water main pipe placement along SE Main Street and will also be installing storm sewer pipe.

June 17th - June 21st (PDF):  Phase 2 of the project continues. Vanderpool is almost done installing the sanitary sewer services along SE Main Street and the adjacent side streets. Vanderpool also started installing the water main today by the G.C.C. Please note that during water main construction it is common to have air or sediment in the line due to the water main being cut, moved, capped, etc. If you notice discoloration of the water, you can typically get rid of it by running the tap or spigot for a few minutes. The outdoor spigot typically works better as many indoor faucets have screens that can get plugged. Vehicular access along SE Main is restricted from the south driveway of the G.C.C. to SE 3rd Street and SE 3rd Street is restricted west of SE Main Street.
Next week Vanderpool will continue with water main pipe placement along SE Mail Street. Once they get done with that, they may have times to start switching everyone's water service to the new water main.

June 10th - June 14th (PDF):  Phase 2 of the project has begun. The pavement removals along SE Main Street and along SE 3rd Street (west of Main) have  been completed and pipe placement has begun. Today Absolute Concrete is pouring the IOOF parking lot. Vehicle access along SE Main Street is restricted from the south driveway of the G.C.C. to SE 3rd Street, and SE 3rd Street is restricted west of SE Main Street.
Next week Vanderpool will continue with pipe placement along SE Main Street.

June 3rd - June 7th (PDF):  Phase 1 of the project is completed. Absolute cleaned the project site and elected not to begin work on Phase 2 because of Governors Days. On Monday Phase 2 of the project will begin (SE Main Street will be closed from SE 3rd to SE 6th).

May 27th - May 31st (PDF):  This week was a little slow going due to heavy rain events. Vanderpool completed Phase 1 storm sewer work along SE 4th Street. Vanderpool also began sanitary sewer service work along SE 3rd Street. Absolute began paving of SE 4th Street.
Next week Vanderpool will continue working on sanitary sewer services along SE 3rd Street. Absolute will finish the G.C.C. Parking lot and SE 4th Street. Phase 1 will be completed by Tuesday. May 20th - May 24th (PDF):  This week was a little slow going due to the rains early in the week. Vanderpool got most of the storm sewer and intakes installed along SE 4th ST. Vanderpool also got SE 4th ST (West of SE Main ST) prepped and rocked and ready for paving.
Next week is a short week due to Memorial Day on Monday. Vanderpool will finish the storm sewer placement along SE 4th ST (East of Main ST). Absolute Concrete will pave SE 4th ST, the approaches for the G.C.C. parking lot, and also pave other driveways, sidewalks and street patches along SE 4th.
There will be times next week when SE 4th and SE Jacob are not open to traffic. During these times alternate routes will be necessary.

May 13th - May 17th (PDF):  This week Absolute Concrete paved the G.C.C. parking lot and Vanderpool Construction began placement of the storm sewer that discharges south of the Brookside Apartments (317 SE Jacob ST).
Next week Vanderpool will bring another crew onto the site and really get things moving. They will continue placing storm sewer and intakes along SE 4th ST and should finish that up by the end of the week. Once the storm sewer is installed, SE 4th ST will be graded and ready ofr drainable rock to be placed. It is the contractor's hope that they can pour the approaches for the G.C.C. parking lot next week as well.
There will be times next week when SE 4th and SE Jacob are not open to traffic. During these times alternate routes will be necessary.

May 6th - May 10th  (PDF):  This Week Absolute Concrete and Vanderpool Construction began grading for the parking lots and also did some minor sanitary sewer service work. They have also begun hauling construction materials onto the site. Due to limited staging areas, these materials will be within the SE Main ST right-of-way for the time being until they can install them.

Construction Update:
May 1, 2013.
Absolute concrete has informed us that they will begin construction on May 6th, rather than May 1st, due to lead time on some of their materials and impending weather. They intend to begin construction on the parking lots behind the IOOF building on May 6th and will continue onto the Grimes Community Complex parking lot. Waiting a few days for the rain to pass will likely help keep mud off of the local streets.
