Seasonal (Summer) - Public Works, Laborer:
Assist with street or parks maintenance projects including but not limited to mowing, weed eating, filling potholes, crack sealing and other pavement repairs. Assist in repairing, installing and replacing signs. Assists with the application of pavement markings. Helps maintain City buildings and properties. Candidates will be required to operate vehicles along with assorted hand and power tools. Primarily heavy manual labor as well as other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Candidates must be capable of lifting 50lbs in conjunction with twisting and repetitive motions. Must be 18 yrs old with a valid driver’s license. E.O.E.

Johnston-Grimes Metro Fire/EMS Department

Full Time Firefighter -

The Johnston-Grimes Metropolitan Fire Department, IA, is currently accepting applications for full-time Firefighter.  Applicants must possess a valid Iowa driver’s license. Minimum requirements are certification as an Iowa or National Firefighter I (Firefighter II preferred), Hazardous Materials Operations and Emergency Medical Services certification as an Iowa EMT-Basic. All certifications will be verified with the Iowa Fire Service Training Bureau, IDPH – Bureau of EMS and/or NREMT.

Starting annual salary July 1, 2017:

Entry Firefighter/Paramedic =      $49,196
Lateral Entry*, 1 years =                $51,164
Lateral Entry, 2 years =                   $53,211

A physical ability test and written exams for both Fire & EMS are required for the position. Must be at least 18 years old, but less than 65 years old, to apply. Each city offers an excellent wage and benefit package. 

The Johnston-Grimes Metropolitan Fire Department operates out of 3 stations and respond to approximately 2400 runs per year. Career members work a 48/96. Successful applicants can be placed at any one of the three stations depending on the need for staffing.
