Local residents are needed to work on our Special Census. The Census Bureau will conduct job testing soon in The City of Grimes. The US Census Bureau pays enumerators $13.55 per hour, plus mileage and paid training. Our Special Census will last 2 to 8 weeks. Enumerators are asked to work 25-40 hours each week when neighbors are home, usually evenings and weekends.
- Should be at least 18 years old.
- Must have a valid driver's license and a vehicle available for their use.
- Should have the ability to hear responses and to read questionnaires.
- Should be able to work several hours a day, which often includes a lot of walking and climbing stairs.
- Should be available for day, evening, and weekend work, as needed.
- Should be available to attend a three-day training session.
- Should have access to a private, corded home telephone.
All applicants are required to take a written examination. Applicants should register for the exam by calling 515-253-8715. Applicants will be notified by mail of the testing date and location. Applicants may either return completed applications to City Hall, or may bring the completed application form with them to their scheduled testing session.

Grimes Fire/EMS Department
Firefighter/EMT/Paramedic (paid on-call):
The Grimes Fire Department is accepting applications for paid-on-call staff. The department seeks individuals already possessing Iowa or National Fire Certifications and/or EMS Certifications, but will train individuals wanting to work in a paid-on-call role. Grimes residency is required.
Compensation is competitive, depending on qualifications. Applicants must possess a valid Iowa driver's license, be at least 18 years of age, and be able to successfully complete a criminal history background check. The Grimes Fire Department also requires a doctor's release stating members are physically qualified to participate in fire fighting/EMS activities.
