Founded in 1881, incorporated in 1894, and named for James W. Grimes, former senator and third governor of the state of Iowa, Grimes today offers a friendly Midwestern atmosphere and a sense of community that brings people close together.

Spring Clean-up:  The Citywide Clean-up Day will be Saturday May 19th. Please place your unwanted items near the curb on Friday evening. Hazardous substances are not allowed. Appliances will be picked up without a sticker. No yard waste or tires.  We will also be offering shredding at the City Hall parking lot (101 NE Harvey ST) from 9am to 1pm.  More Details

Yard Waste Drop-offs:  Yard waste and scrap tires may be dropped off at the City Shop (901 NE Main Street) on May 19th and 20th. Times are 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. You must be a resident of Grimes.

Pay Your Water Bill Online:  We are pleased to announce that you may now pay your water bill online. We have recently updated our software with the goal of providing more payment options as well as increased convenience and better customer service. Payments may now be made by credit card over the phone, in person or online.

Stormwater Utility Fee Options and Implementation:  This is a PDF of a presentation by Fox Engineering to the City Council given on July 12th. The City Council has started the discussion and wants your input. Residents of Grimes may email kelbrown@ci.grimes.ia.us . Your comments would be appriciated. More information on this matter will be provided as it becomes available. Thanks for allowing us to serve you.

If you would like to have your water bill automatically deducted from your checking account each month, please print and fill out the Sure-Pay  Authorization Form and return it to City Hall along with a voided blank check.
